World War I

Starting in 2014 a small group of researchers began work to profile the men from Chalford Parish who died in World War I. This led to a the publication in 2016 of a book A Parish at War: Brownshill, Bussage, Chalford and France Lynch 1914-1919 by Camilla Boon, Hilary Burgess, Roger Carnt, Heather Collins, Peter Drover and Juliet Stewart. This includes short biographies of the 156 men who died, together with information about men who fought and survived, prisoners of war and life on the home front. The book is now out of print and no copies are left for sale locally, but it may be consulted at the Gloucestershire Archives or the Gloucestershire Library.
